Most unexpected happening for me was ... "My reaction to the tattoos," "Modern Turkey," "Friendly Turks," "Leather factory models," "Buying a silk carpet when we had sworn that we wouldn't buy a carpet whatever," "Learning that Turkey is the cradle of civilization and the importance to Turks of Ataturk," "Rashid giving me a hug," "The amount of unfinished houses and the fact that they are still building," "Everything. I came with an open mind," "Being the only Brits," "The bus aisle getting narrower every day," "Watching a dung beetle do its work," "Finding another tour member (a man!) in my bed." (His wife was in town with their room key and he had the reception open up the wrong room for him.)

Most humorous happening on the trip was ... "Bill grabbing someone else's hand thinking it is me," "Rashid saying, 'No flashing at the museum,' " "Rashid laughing at a joke before telling us," "Rashid's hat," "The eager response to the offer of double beds."

I know it is a good day when ... "I Don't have to pay for toilet," "I can sit rather than squat," "I can pass the wind safely." (Rashid's response to that: What does it mean 'To pass the wind?' " "I can close my suitcase," "I can still react to the tattoos, etc."
